SURF DOG LEGENDS
Carson Surf Dog
Rescued as a puppy off the streets of South Central LA in 2014, Carson found his way to Jill Nakano and Tina Musto and never looked back. Under their guidance, Carson built a career that includes a personal "Triple Crown" — first place at three competitions spanning NorCal to SoCal in 2019 — and a 2nd-place Western Regionals finish in 2025. Now 11 and still competing, Carson is also a certified therapy dog, comforting teens and elders, including young people displaced by the Altadena fires. These days, he's passing the torch to the next generation, mentoring rising star Bradley "Shortboard" Cooper the same way his own mentor Kihei once showed him the way. “It started because we had another dog named Kihei, rest in peace. I love to surf, so I took Carson to the beach and I would go in the water with my board and he would bark at me at the shore. So then one day the board was kind of near the shore, and he barked again, then jumped on the board. That was about 11 years ago. The rest is surf dog history.”
