The Frenchie who broke the mold. Iza is a 6-year-old French Bulldog from Pleasanton, California, and a surf champion no one saw coming. She arrived in her owner David Fasoli’s life from a surprise litter, and she turned out to be a perfect fit for him. During the COVID-19 pandemic, David, who has a physical disability and only one hand, took Iza to the beach often. Most French Bulldogs steer clear of the water, but Iza ran straight into the waves, splashing around like she’d been waiting for them her whole life. David could see her love of the ocean, so he bought a surfboard and started training her balance in his backyard swimming pool. When she was ready, they moved to the ocean. After years of practice and competing up and down the West Coast, from Huntington Beach to Pacifica, Iza broke every stereotype about her breed by winning gold at events like the annual World Dog Surfing Championships at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, California. Known for defying the stereotype that French Bulldogs aren't built for water, Iza and David’s story has been celebrated as a testament to resilience, trust, and teamwork. Iza and David also use their platform to help others. They raise money and support local animal shelters through their competitions, proving that a surprise litter can turn into something special for a lot of dogs.
